龍天翼是住在加拿大一個草原省份的退休專業工程師。他畢業於卡加里大學，有機械工程學士及碩士學位，執業於石油及天然氣工業多年，但2008年確診癌症後，便長期養病家中，現在總算存活，並年近古稀。他是對詩有濃厚興趣的業餘作家，特別是中文詩詞。由於不想把自己的非技術性作品標上售價，所以把它們發表在非賣品的書冊或者非商業性網站。

1957年生於中國香港的龍天翼，是在當地完成小學及大部分中學課程。他的先世居於廣東順德及廣東南海等地，祖父是民國早年軍政界名詩人，孫中山助手之一，多次出任廣東一些縣城的縣長。他的父母婚姻破裂，皆因父親情婦太多，部分更對他幾母子刻意加害。母親為免子女被後母虐待，拒絕離婚，並且母兼父職地把子女教養成人。他的父親於1970年代初到加拿大的温哥華定居，隨後為他母子辦了移民手續，原因是新老闆信任愛護家庭的僱員。母子抵步兩週後，他的父親又怕住在温哥華的情婦不悅，找了個藉口把他們送回香港。數年後龍天翼回到加拿大，與母親和其中一個家姊住在一個草原省份。

龍天翼本來有意在學界發展，卻因為不滿一些教授對硏究生的剝削而改變初衷。在工程生涯的頭十六年，他先後受僱於不同的大型石油公司和大型運輸管道公司，後來改投顧問公司。他喜歡撰寫科硏論文和技術報告，但最終都比不上對中文詩詞的愛好。英文始終是他的第二語言，而他是倚靠家教與自修來提升中文寫作技巧。母親和兩位家姊對他的愛護，他的科技涵養，他的宗教信仰，他幼弱時的艱苦歲月，加拿大的草原帶和落磯山脈給他的靈感，凝合起來就溯造出他的寫作風格。他在1987年出版了第一本詩集《如花集》，2000年出版了第二本詩集《如花續稿》，均是透過熱心人士的網絡來分發。此後，他的大多數作品都見於由一群香港詩人籌辦的《嶺雅》詩文年刋。《嶺雅》在2016年停刋後，他亦為了專心照顧衰老的母親而沒有寫詩。龍母在2023年辭世，他在2025年一時興起想建造這個網站，因此喚醒了在冬眠中的詩詞細胞。

龍家原本有禮佛的傳統，但龍天翼的祖母是虔誠基督徒及民國早年女西醫，所以每個子女和孫兒都要洗禮入教。龍天翼在十多歲時易轍皈依佛教，當時祖母已經離世好幾年。他著有佛學書兩本，中文版首先面世。英文版數載後完成，但內容更豐盛。兩者同屬非賣品，可在互聯網閱讀。

Lung, Tin Yick (龍天翼, pinyin: Lóng Tiān Yì) is a retired professional engineer residing in a prairie province of Canada. He graduated from the University of Calgary and holds a Bachelor and a Master in mechanical engineering. He practiced engineering in the oil and gas industry for many years but took an extended medical leave after being diagnosed with cancer in 2008. He survived and is now in his late sixties. He is also an amateur writer with a keen interest in poetry, especially Chinese poetry. He prefers not to have a price tag on his non-technical works. Thus, he publishes them in not-for-sale books or displays them on non-commercial websites.

Born in Hong Kong, China in 1957, Lung completed his primary school and most of his secondary school there. His ancestors lived in the areas of Shunde (順德) and Nanhai (南海) of Guandong (廣東), China. His grandfather, a renowned poet in the military-political sphere during the early years of the Republic, was one of the aides of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and served as mayor for different counties in Guandong. His parents had a broken marriage because his father had too many mistresses and some of them were determined to do harm to his family. His mother refused to divorce because she did not want to leave her children in the hands of a stepmother; therefore, she raised them more or less like a single parent. His father made arrangement for his and his mother’s immigration papers to Canada after settling in Vancouver in the early 1970’s in order to please a new boss who believed that a person who loved his family would make a trustworthy employee. Two weeks after landing, his father found an excuse to send him and his mother back to Hong Kong for fear that their presence might upset his mistress in Vancouver. After returning to Canada a few years later, Lung resided in a prairie province with his mother and one of his sisters.

Lung was interested in academic work but changed course because he did not like the way that some professors exploited their graduate students. He worked for different major oil companies and a major pipeline company in the first 16 years of his engineering career and then moved on to consulting firms. He enjoyed writing research papers and technical reports but his passion for Chinese poetry eventually dominated. English remained his second language, and he depended on family edification and self-studies to advance his writing skills in Chinese. It was a combination of his mother’s and his sisters’ love, his technical training, his religious faith, the hardship in his young and vulnerable years, and the inspiration from the Canadian Prairies and the Canadia Rockies that shaped his writing style. He published his first book of Chinese poems, titled Ru Hua Ji (如花集), in 1987 and his second, titled Ru Hua Xu Gao (如花續稿), in 2000. Both were circulated by a network of enthusiasts. Later, the majority of his poems could be seen in the poetic periodical Ling Ya (嶺雅), published annually by a group of Hong Kong poets. After the shutdown of Ling Ya in 2016, he was too busy to compose new poems since he had to provide elderly care for his mother. His mother passed away in 2023. The impulse to set up this website in 2025 has awakened his poetic cells from hibernation.

Lung’s family had traditionally practiced Buddhism but starting with his grandmother, who was a devout Christian (Protestant) and a physician who practiced Western medicine in the early years of the Republic, every child and every grandchild in the family had to be baptized. Lung converted to Buddhism in his teenage years, several years after his grandmother passed away. He wrote two books on Buddhist studies. The Chinese edition was published first and the English edition followed several years later with enhanced contents. Both are not-for-sale and are available for viewing on the Internet.
